CFRP pressure vessels
Our Type 4 composite pressure vessels, which EMS began manufacturing 20 years ago, are incredibly lightweight and have an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. When used to store hydrogen (H2) for H2 fuel-cell trucks or buses, these carbon fibre-reinforced structures can result in a 450kg weight reduction in the gas containment system, which can deliver a significant rise in fuel efficiency.
We use both filament wet winding as well as braiding and resin moulding for less conventionally-shaped H2 tanks. They are extremely durable – potentially delivering up to 30 years of use without needing to be replaced, and have a nominal working pressure of 700 bar.
Heat treatments, welding and flow forming
With 40 years of experience, EMS excels at working with customers to develop ideas and support ongoing projects. Our talented team is highly experienced in a number of core areas, including electron beam welding, heat treatment and the creation of precision tubes using flow forming. We use cold solidification to produce very high strength flow formed tubes while electron beam welding allows us to create high integrity joints with minimal distortion.
We use CFRP and other materials to create a wide number of components for trucks and buses. We work with customers to ensure we use the most appropriate materials for every product.
